Registering for UWHS courses

Students register for UW course(s) in their high school classroom. Their teacher distributes forms, makes sure they are filled out properly, collects payment and returns forms and payment to UW Extension Registration Services. Students must use their full official name on the registration and include their Social Security number. Full payment must be made at the time of registration, which takes place at the beginning of the course. There are no refunds for UWHS courses.

After registration is complete, UW Extension Registration Services mails each student a confirmation to the home address, not the school address. Students should keep this form as it will enable them to get UW library privileges for the duration of their course(s). It is also needed in case there is any complication with registration later on.

Please be advised that retro-active registration (i.e., for completed course work) is not allowed. Sometimes students don't register for UW credit because they don't plan to attend UW or think another institution won't accept credit for their coursework. They later discover they will be coming to the UW or that the institution that has accepted them does recognize UWHS work. Students should check with the institutions they plan to attend to try to determine their policy toward university credit earned in high school before making a decision. Students should register for a course even if they are in doubt about transferability.

Fees for UWHS courses

Students in UWHS courses enjoy a substantial discount on UW credit course fees. A typical UW student pays $200 per credit, or $1000 for five credits.

UWHS fees for first-year courses (other than mathematics), Comparative Literature 240 and History 235 will be $270 for the 2008-2009 school year; the fee for second-year courses is $298; mathematics course fees are $308. There is also a $35 registration fee. If a student takes more than one UW course in a semester, the registration fee is only paid once.
