- What happens if I can't complete my course on time?
You need to request an incomplete if you need more time to complete the course.
A request for an Incomplete must be made to your instructor two weeks before the end of the course. Incompletes are given only if you have satisfactorily completed 80% of the course work. An incomplete will, as a default, be three months long, but may last until the end of the quarter after the quarter in which the incomplete was granted, at the discretion of your instructor. Your instructor may also request that you complete your course work in less than three months.

What happens if I can't complete my course at all?
If you cannot complete your course, and do not withdraw or receive an extension, your grade will be recorded as a 0.0. This grade will appear on your UW transcript and will affect your UW GPA.

How do I withdraw from my course?
(The following policy applies to online learning credit courses and certificate courses or programs. Please note that you cannot withdraw from a UW Educational Outreach course via MyUW. Send your request via email to uweoreg@extn.washington.edu.)
The grade "W" is assigned to any course that you drop between 14 days of registration and three weeks before the expiration date for your course. (You cannot withdraw from a course with less than three weeks remaining before the expiration date.) The date of withdrawal will be listed on your transcript. You may drop a maximum of one University of Washington course each academic year (defined as September through August). This also applies to any courses that are not taken specifically through Extension. Dropping a single course in the last three weeks prior to the expiration date is not an option. You may, however, request a complete withdrawal from the quarter (dropping all courses).

Will I receive a refund when I withdraw?
The refund policy depends on the type of course you're taking:
For online Certificate Program courses and undergraduate credit courses that are group start, the 100% refund deadline is the day before the first day of class. For online Certificate Program courses and undergraduate credit courses that are individual start, you must withdraw by the 15th calendar day after the day you register to receive a 100% refund, minus the quarterly registration fee. If you withdraw from the course after the 15th day but by the 30th calendar day from the day you registered, you will receive a 50% refund, minus the registration fee. You must submit a written request to withdraw, with or without a refund to UW Extension Registration Services, P.O. Box 45010, Seattle WA 98145-0010, or send an e-mail to uweoreg@extn.washington.edu.
Online Master’s Degree courses follow the refund policy outlined on the UW Academic Calendar page.
