Puget Sound Writing Project Open Institute

The Puget Sound Writing Project Open Institute is a two-week program for teachers K-12 in all subject areas who are interested in writing, including alumni of PSWP's Summer Invitational Institute and of previous Open and Advanced Institutes who want to continue their work on writing with a project of their own design. The program includes:

  • A two-week, 5-credit, summer Open Institute
  • A workshop focusing on personal writing and writing instruction including current pedagogical theory related to teaching writing
  • An emphasis on professional reflection and collaboration related to writing, teaching writing and using writing as a tool to learning

The institute focuses on the writing process and the teaching of writing, accomplished through research, writing and demonstration of writing instruction. PSWP is co-sponsored by the University of Washington's Department of English and the National Writing Project and in partnership with the College of Education.

The program is offered on the UW campuses in Seattle and Tacoma.
