Suzanne Boyd
Boyd is principal of Anthro-Tech, a company that specializes in Web site development and usability research. She won Best of Show Award from the Society for Technical Communications Puget Sound Chapter for the Access Washington Web site. Boyd has a B.A. in anthropology from the University of British Columbia and a master's in communication from the University of Washington.

Sarah Kriz
Kriz is one of HCDE's newest faculty members. Her focus is on cognition and communication; her current work is in HRI, but her interests also include visual and spatial communication, the role of gesture in communication, and the effects of animation on learning. She holds a doctorate in cognitive psychology from the University of California at Santa Barbara and master’s and bachelor’s degrees in linguistics. She completed her postdoctoral research position at the Navy Center for Applied Research in Artificial Intelligence in Washington, DC. As part of her postdoctoral work, she is completed an experiment in which undergraduates at George Mason University communicated with Aibo, a robotic dog made by Sony. Here in HCDE, Sarah is working with a much more sophisticated robot in a lab created for her so that she can run experiments in which the robot moves around and interacts with humans in a range of ways.

Doug Pyle
Doug Pyle has been a user experience professional for more than 11 years. He graduated from the UW in 1998 with an MS in Human Centered Design & Engineering, and in 1999 he started the user research group for microsoft.com, MSDN, TechNet, and Microsoft Press. In 2004 Doug moved to Greater China to manage UI Design & IA for Global Sources. Since then, he has worked for Google focusing on Ads and Search, as well as the Microsoft Robotics startup group, focusing on user experience planning. Doug is currently the Vice President of the Puget Sound chapter of the Usability Professionals Association and is a past president of the UW chapter of the Society for Technical Communication

Judy Ramey, Ph.D.
Ramey is a professor and former chair in the UW Department of Human Centered Design & Engineering. Her professional foci include the following: Usability research methods for use in the context of product development; the usability of information, communication technologies, and human-computer interfaces. Current projects on eye-tracking technologies and on mobile internet access via cell phones.

Jennifer Turns
Turns is an assistant professor in the UW Department of Human Centered Design & Engineering. She is interested in all aspects of design, including user-centered design, information design, design cognition, design expertise and design education. Turns is also interested in engineering education.

Skip Walter
Walter was the founding CEO and CTO for Attenex. He has raised more than $25M in new venture funding for four software companies in the office automation, medical, legal, and winery industries. Walter has over 40 years of experience in executive management, software engineering, product development, high technology mergers and acquisitions, organization development, joint venture development, designing, architecting, producing, and delivering software solutions for the legal industry, publishing industry, health care industry, Global 1000 companies and small high technology startups. The products that he has designed, created, and developed for Digital Equipment Corporation, Aldus/Adobe, Primus and Attenex are used by over five million customers.

Sabina Webb
Webb is a usability engineer with over 15 years of corporate and consulting experience in applied research on human-computer interaction. She received her Ph.D. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology, specializing in Human Factors from the University of Connecticut, where she focused on the areas of mental workload, attention and working memory. Since 1993 she has worked for Verizon, Dell, and as an independent consultant providing expertise in experimental design, statistical data analysis and usability testing for hardware, software and websites. She moved to Seattle in August 2009 where she is now a user experience researcher for Microsoft.
