Instructors

Mark Epstein, RLA, ASLA
Senior Landscape Architect, ESA Adolfson Associates, Inc.

A senior landscape architect with ESA Adolfson Associates, a natural sciences and environmental planning consulting firm in Seattle, Epstein is co-chair of the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) Therapeutic Garden Design Professional Practice Network, and an instructor and advisory board member for the Healthcare Garden Design Certificate Program at the Chicago Botanic Garden. He received a Master's of Landscape Architecture from the University of Washington and a Bachelor's in Natural Resources from the University of Michigan.

Roxanne Hamilton
Lecturer, Department of Landscape Architecture, UW

Hamilton has been practicing landscape design since 1976, and taught in the undergraduate landscape architecture program at the UW. Her teaching interests range from the design of restorative landscapes to cross-cultural design, and her long-term professional commitment is centered on the reconnection of people to their environment. Hamilton's most recent teaching projects included a sustainable garden design studio and a seminar in healing gardens. Both professionally and through teaching, Hamilton has worked with Northwest tribal communities as a designer/consultant for cultural center projects. Her design firm, Hamilterre, specializes in residential garden design. She earned her bachelor's degree from Scripps College, and a Master's of Landscape Architecture from the University of Washington.
