Participants in this nine-month program approved by the UW College of Education acquire the business skills needed to work successfully in various fields of sports management. The courses in this program expand knowledge of topics such as building a business plan, successfully planning, and marketing sports events and products, working with community and corporate partners, and crisis management which can help individuals improve career skills and expand opportunities in the sports field.
The non-credit courses in this program have been designed with input from accomplished sports professionals and UW faculty. The relevant, practical curriculum speaks to the needs of working professionals who are already involved in the sports field, as well as those individuals who are considering entering the field. Students will gain a theoretical basis of sports management, including sports management roles, business foundations, basic skills and competencies required for entry level positions in sports related organizations, career considerations, and future trends.
Each class meets once or twice a month (total of 5 meetings – 33 contact hours) each quarter; additional activities conducted electronically. Course includes expert guest speakers as well as external field trips and outreach assignments.
