New Online + Classroom Combined Format

We're pleased to offer this program in a new hybrid format that combines classroom and online sessions, giving you the benefits of in-person meetings along with the convenience of classes anywhere you wish. You'll spend less time commuting, have more flexibility and can even participate in your pajamas – but only during online sessions, please.

How it Works

Classroom and online sessions alternate throughout the course of the program. The first session is always in the classroom, as will be every other session (sessions 1, 3, 5, 7, 9). Even-numbered sessions (2, 4, 6, 8, 10) will be online using Adobe Connect as a conferencing tool. This means you only have to come to class 5 times in person per course.

After you are accepted and enroll into a class, you'll come to the first class (in person) and will also be mailed instructions on how to connect to the course for future sessions. The class will then be streamed in real time during the online sessions, which means you can hear the instructor live, see presentations, view real time notes the instructor takes and interact with students and instructors via chat.

Online, Live Courses Using Adobe Connect

For the interactive online sessions, you will use the Web-based interface of Adobe Connect, which displays all associated files, chat windows, and real-time notes. You will hear live audio of the instructor and other students, and can interact either through voice or online chat to ask questions and collaborate on projects. All class sessions will also be recorded and archived so you can review the audio and visuals at any time.

To participate, you will need a computer with access to the Web and a current browser. Adobe Connect uses the Flash plug-in, downloadable for free from adobe.com. A high-speed connection is required. For more information, view the complete system requirements.

Qualities for Success in Online Learning

Prospective participants should consider their learning style, strengths and preferences if they intend to apply for the online learning option. Points to consider:

If you are skilled at managing your time to achieve goals, are self-disciplined, and enjoy working on your own, you can do well in online learning. The online sessions rely on audio, chat and written instructions rather than in-person explanations from your instructor. You should be comfortable with learning through reading and communicating primarily in writing. An online discussion forum and live chat connects you to other students and to your instructor. You may be studying in your living room, but you are not alone when you take an online learning course. Online learning saves commuting time, but these courses require at least as much time as attending classes and completing assignments for campus courses.

Testimonials

"The online set up of the class today was great. After I got accustomed to not being able to see Emily, I felt like I was as involved as I would be sitting in the classroom. ... I am excited about this course! For now I don't anticipate any problems with interaction. I am impressed with the ease of the technology...The online portion of [the program] is well organized, attentive to the details of student needs, and seamless in its execution..."
