Autumn Course
Principles and Applications of Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Ultrasound
This course will introduce the basic principles of magnetic resonance and ultrasound. This course provides coverage of the physics of MR image formation, mechanisms of image contrast, and the basis for image signals. It also includes the fundamentals of ultrasonic generation, formation, reception, and treatment of absorption, scattering, and transmission. Radiologic anatomy and functional physiology as related to the techniques will be introduced as well a case study approach to the application of these techniques to clinical problems.
Winter Course
Principles and Applications of X-Ray and Computed Tomography
This course will introduce the basic principles of X-ray and CT. Topics will include: production of X-rays, interactions between X-rays and matter, X-ray system development, the physics principles of radiography, and radiographic image quality. This course will also introduce: foundations of CT image reconstruction, system performance parameters and recent advancements of CT technology. Includes functional anatomy and physiology as related to the imaging techniques and applications to clinical problems, in case study format.
Spring Course
Principles and Applications of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging
Basic principles of nuclear medicine as well as applications of imaging techniques in molecular and cellular imaging. Topics will include: nuclear radiation and interaction with matter, nuclear decay processes, nuclear reactions, and the chemical properties of radioactive preparations used in nuclear medicine. The course also introduces molecular imaging as an integrated medical discipline that allows visualization of target molecules and biological processes. Includes functional anatomy and physiology as related to the imaging technique and applications to clinical problems, in case study format.
