Robert Berger, J.D.
Lecturer, Management and Organization, University of Washington

Berger has spent his life practicing law. He has served both in the public and private sectors. He teaches business law to students at all levels and is known for making the law understandable. Prior to joining the faculty at the University of Washington he was a prosecutor in Los Angeles. Bob has been honored as a Teacher of the Quarter in Administration510 in the past. He is an avid cyclist when he is not teaching. Recently retired, Bob teaches in Admin510 because he likes the students.

Jane George-Falvy, Ph.D.
Lecturer, Management and Organization, University of Washington

Geoerge-Falvy is the faculty director of the Global Social Entrepreneurship Competition. She also is the faculty advisor for the UW Society of Human Resources Management. Prior to joining the faculty at the UW in 1997, she was an assistant professor at the School of Management in Sydney, AUS. She is an expert on the topics of motivation and performance management, social cognitive theory, skill acquisition, training, managerial skills, group dynamics, negotiation, compensation. She teaches courses in organizational behavior and human resources, and has worked as a consultant for the state government of New South Wales. George-Falvy is actively involved with students, and was recently honored by the UW business school for her outstanding dedication and mentoring of human resources management students.

Vandra L. Huber, D.B.A.
Professor, Human Resources Management, University of Washington

Huber works with the Essentials of Business certificate program, CIBER, and the Business and Economic Development Center, conducting research on minority- and women-owned small businesses. She received her M.B.A. and D.B.A. in human resources and social psychology from Indiana University, and served on the faculties of the New York School of Industrial and Labor Relations at Cornell University and the University of Utah. She has published numerous articles and textbooks on human resources decision making. She has earned several awards and fellowships, including the Dorothy Harlow and Fritz Rothesberger Awards, and an Ascendant Scholar for the Western Academy of Management. She has been a consultant for companies like Microsoft, Nokia, and Boeing. Huber is listed in Who's Who in America and Who's Who among Women.

Karrin Klotz
Lecturer, University of Washington Business School

Klotz has over 20 years of experience. She is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin Law School, and a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the UC Berkeley. She is a lecturer at the UW an adjunct professor at Seattle University. Klotz's legal practice specializes in representing entrepreneurs on the issues faced by small businesses operating worldwide. She completed a judicial clerkship for the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas. She has also been a litigator for Pillsbury and represented Microsoft, Wall Data, and others. She was chairman of the Public Information and Media Relations Committee of the Washington State Bar Association, and published a paper on intellectual property audits at the 9th World Congress on Intellectual Capital and Innovation.

Lynda Livingston, Ph.D.
Assistant Professor, Finance, University of Puget Sound

Livingston holds a Ph.D. in finance and business economics from the UW, an M.S. from Texas A&M University and a B.A. from the University of Texas, Austin. Prior to joining the faculty at UPS, she was a lecturer at the University of Washington. Her research focuses on entrepreneurial share sales, as well as corporate finance and corporate control issues. She has worked in personal finance areas for Texas A&M University and Seattle University. Livingston teaches a variety of finance courses, including investments, financial markets, and personal finance. She brings expertise in both introductory and advanced financial management areas. Honors include being named Instructor of Year for Admin 510 several times.

Richard McPherson
Lecturer

McPherson's 25 years of experience includes serving as a Vice President at T-Mobile and AT&T Broadband, and as a Partner in a small consulting firm. He has been a leader of various aspects mergers, acquisition and divestiture projects, started four business units within large corporations, and has helped improve small business and non-profit strategic planning and operations. He is also an adjunct professor at Seattle University, as well as a lecturer at the UW. McPherson has been a featured speaker at over 30 national, regional, and local industry meetings and workshops. He serves on the boards of directors for Alpine Evergreen Co. Inc., and others, and is a vice president on the Eastside Domestic Violence Program board of directors.

Corey Phelps, Ph.D.
Assistant Professor, UW Business School

Phelps earned his Ph.D. in Strategic Management at the Stern School of Business, NYU. His research focuses on strategic alliances, mergers and acquisitions, and minority equity investments in start-up firms to enhance their innovativeness. He was awarded a three-year grant from the National Science Foundation to study alliances and acquisitions. His research has appeared, or is forthcoming in several publications, including Management Science, Strategic Management Journal, and Advances in Strategic Management. Phelps is a member of the editorial board of the Academy of Management Journal, and a recipient of several awards, including Undergraduate Professor of the Year for Core Courses. He teaches strategic management at UW, and has worked as an internal consultant with AT&T Global Information Solutions. He also helped found three small businesses.

Donald Ramey, Ph.D., C.M.A.
Associate Director, UW Educational Outreach (retired)

Until his recent retirement, Ramey served as an Associate Director for Business Programs, UW Educational Outreach. His myriad responsibilities included curriculum development, budgeting and pricing, and instructor recruitment, training, and evaluation. He oversaw recruiting for a variety of business programs, including Accounting, Business Administration, and Human Resource Management. Ramey has been on the faculties at Washington State University, University of Puget Sound, DePaul University, and the University of Washington, where he taught courses in accounting, economics, statistics, and budgeting. He has worked for Pacific Northwest Bell Telephone, where he was a project manager and forecasting financial analyst. He holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois in Economics, an M.S. in accountancy from DePaul University and Ph.D. in economics from Washington State University.

D. Shores, Ph.D.
Associate Professor of Accounting

Shores received a B.S. from the University of Illinois, an M.S. from the University of Wisconsin, and her Ph.D. from Stanford University. She joined the faculty at the UW in 1986. She was a visiting assistant professor at the University of Iowa and has worked as a staff auditor for Ernst and Whinney. Her research focuses on corporate reporting, accounting choices, and the role of accounting in equity valuation and contracting. Her articles have appeared in the Journal of Accounting and Economics and Contemporary Accounting Research. Shores teaches courses to undergraduates, graduates, and PhD students. She is also an instructor in the summer accounting program. Shores often brings her Labrador Retriever "Bogie" with her, where he entertains the third floor with his social calls.

Kevin Steensma, Ph.D.
Associate Professor of Management, Helen Moore Gerhardt Faculty Fellow in Entrepreneurship

Steensma was on the faculty at the Pennsylvania State University, Smeal College of Business. He received a B.S. (Phi Beta Kappa) and an M.B.A. from Washington State University, and earned his Ph.D. from Indiana University. Steensma teaches in the M.B.A., Executive M.B.A., and executive education programs at the UW. His research focuses on the formation of technology and manufacturing alliances in an international context, and the influence of national culture on technology alliance formation and entrepreneurship. His articles have been published in Academy of Management Journal, Strategic Management Journal, and Journal of International Business Studies, among others. He is the recipient of the Dean's International Research Award and Junior Faculty Research Award. Steensma is on the editorial board of the Academy of Management Review.

Richard Yalch, Ph.D.
Professor, Marketing

Yalch joined the UW faculty in 1974, and directed the doctoral program from 1983-1986. He has been a visiting professor at Northwestern University, and is the associate editor of the Journal of Consumer Research. He served on the editorial review board for the Journal of Marketing and the Journal of Consumer Research, conducted executive programs in marketing research and marketing management for small firms, and published widely in the academic press. He consults for the Northwest Research Group on consumer and public affairs research, and was the director of computer policy for the School of Business. He is involved with the Business and Economic Development Center where he co-authored a survey of minority-owned small businesses in Washington.
