Diane Katz
Freelance Clothing Designer
Diane Katz has had a successful career for more than 35 years as a fashion designer of knitwear, sportswear and outerwear. Her focus has been on sports apparel, including skiwear, hi-tech outerwear, and fitness apparel. She has designed and developed collections for Eddie Bauer, Nike, White Stag, Jansport, Helly Hansen and Reebok in American and international markets. She has extensive experience sourcing and manufacturing products in Asia and Europe. She currently has her own line of hand-dyed silk apparel and accessories. Katz has a B.A. in Clothing Design for Apparel Manufacture from the University of Washington, an M.S. in Textile Design/ Related Art from the University of Wisconsin, and has also studied at Parsons School of Design. She has lectured and conducted workshops on fashion design in countries including Germany, Finland and Sweden.
Juliet Sander
Marketing and Management Consultant to the Fashion Industry
Juliet Sander has more than ten years experience as a strategic planner, with expertise in fashion business planning, marketing and relationship management. Four years ago she founded Sander Consulting LCC, a consulting firm partnering with fashion designers and retailers to grow their business and realize their vision. She designs and implements marketing and business strategies and has helped build successful businesses for Kimberly Baker Jewelry, Lambs Ear Shoes, Olivine Atelier, Microsoft Virtual Earth and new ventures still in development. With a background in marketing, working for global agency Young & Rubicam and RadarWorks, she has worked extensively on market analysis, brand strategy, identity development, promotional materials, online campaigns and traditional media planning. Sander has developed and conducted workshops on fashion business marketing and management.
Sue Dickerson Smith
Fashion Merchandising Consultant
Dickerson Smith has more than twenty years of experience in the fashion industry, with expertise in product development, merchandising and production. In addition to having performed a wide range of upper management functions, she has collaborated with designers in the planning, development and production of seasonal product lines. She is an expert in all of the aspects of production that transform a fashion design into reality, including assortment planning, sourcing, raw material development and management, development and implementation of a production schedule, quality control, costing and pricing. She has held various positions in merchandising, marketing and production at Tommy Bahama, Pacific Trail, the Gerry Group, Helly Hansen, Serac, Inc., and the Robert Comstock Company, and earned a Bachelors of Business Administration from Idaho State University.
