Autumn Course
Figure Drawing For Painting
Schedule: (10 sessions) Mondays 7-10 p.m., Oct. 12-Dec. 14, 2009; $699.
Instructor: Danila Rumold
Students explore painting and drawing media and technique through the study of the human form. The emphasis is on the expressive potential of the human figure, along with a basic understanding of proportion and anatomy. Topics include the significance of materials and the manipulation of visual elements. Students are encouraged to investigate various forms and styles of art, e.g., abstraction, representation, expressionism, collage, surrealism. Reference is made to figurative painting styles and methods in art history.
Winter Course
Painting From the Nude and Clothed Figure
Schedule: (10 sessions) Mondays, 7-10 p.m., Jan. 4-Mar. 22, 2010 (no class Jan. 18 & Feb. 15); $699.
Instructor: Danila Rumold
Learn to depict the underlying forms of the clothed figure as you explore the potential of fabric and lighting expressed through folds and creases. In drawing the nude figure you'll learn to accurately and confidently render the figure in space. This course leads to a greater knowledge of proportion, foreshortening and possibilities for communication. You'll use invention and imagination to explore more advanced concepts of proportion, perspective and the utilization of negative space, light and shadow.

Spring Course
Portrait Painting
Schedule: (10 sessions) Mondays, 7-10 p.m., Mar. 29-June 6 (no class May 31); $699.
Instructor: Linda Thomas
Join artist Linda Thomas as she explores the techniques for drawing and painting the human figure. Capture both gesture and likeness when working from a model, and develop accuracy and sensitivity. Thomas stresses building form through direct observation of light and space to achieve accurate and expressive portraits.
