Instructors

Ingrid Emerick

Emerick is a freelance editor and co-founder of the recently launched Girl Friday Productions, a book development company. She has been in book publishing for over 15 years, including 12 years at Seal Press. Her range of experience includes the roles of associate publisher and editorial director. She is the co-editor of Gifts of the Wild: A Woman's Book of Adventure, A Woman Alone: Travel Tales from Around the Globe, and Go Your Own Way: Women Travel the World Solo, all published by Seal Press. Her own writing has appeared in A Woman Alone and on HipMama.com. She also leads writing workshops—the next one is entitled, "New Zealand's South Island with Adventure Divas." Emerick lives with her husband and two children in Seattle.

Jenna Free

Jenna Free is a freelance writer and editor for Girl Friday Productions, and her experiences have covered a wide swath of the publishing world. She was the executive editor for the Gail Ross Literary Agency (gailross.com), and senior editor for the book producer becker&mayer (beckermayer.com). She has written for Seattle Magazine, Seattle Bride, Northwest Home + Garden, and Best Places Seattle. Jenna ghostwrote John Lennon: The New York Years, and has developed book projects with clients as varied as Lucasfilm, David McCullough, and the estates of Tupac Shakur and Audrey Hepburn.

Kris Fulsaas

Fulsaas is a freelance editor and proofreader, specializing in guidebooks and similar nonfiction. Her clientele includes Countryman Press, Fulcrum Publishing, University of Washington Press and Sasquatch Books. In her 24 years in the publishing field, Fulsaas has been production editor for Alaska Northwest Books, and a production manager for two travel magazines. She earned a bachelor of arts degree from The Evergreen State College.

Niquette Kelcher

Kelcher has been involved in Web site production for five years as an editor, writer and producer. She is currently the managing editor of a Web site that services accounting and finance professionals. A widely published writer in the accounting industry and for nonprofits, Kelcher's experience has resulted in a thorough understanding of online content development and e-newsletter effectiveness. In addition, Kelcher provides editorial support to nonprofit organizations in the community. She received a bachelor's degree in English education from Western Washington University and an editing certificate from the University of Washington.

Kim Runciman

Runciman is an editing professional with a wide range of editorial, publications management, corporate communications, and writing experience. A former copyeditor at online news and opinion magazine Slate, she worked with editors and writers to maintain style and standards; fact-checked; and published articles using the Web content management system. She was also the editor of the popular Dear Prudence column. Runciman was previously a copyeditor at Landor Associates, a worldwide packaging design and branding firm, and the editor of The Sound Consumer, PCC's member newspaper. She has been a copyeditor and writer on numerous fiction and creative nonfiction publications and e-zines.

Bill Thorness

Bill Thorness is a Seattle writer and editor who has been working in the profession for more than 20 years, the last six as a full-time freelancer. He works for both media and corporate clients on projects from newsletters to white papers to books. His articles have appeared in many local publications, including the Seattle Times, Seattle Post-Intelligencer and Seattle Business Monthly. Previous editing jobs include a statewide newspaper and a national magazine. He is the author of Biking Puget Sound: 50 Rides from Olympia to the San Juans, published in 2007 by Mountaineers Books. Cherie Tucker

Owner of GrammarWorks, Tucker specializes in teaching language skills to professionals. She is an international speaker, editor and award-winning writer who has been on the radio and appeared on television. Her columns on grammar and usage have appeared in local and regional publications. Tucker has a B.A. in English from the University of Washington, and extensive experience in advertising, marketing and public relations.
