Agile development is a conceptual framework for software engineering that combines a set of principles with a series of practices. There are a number of practices such as Scrum and eXtreme Programming which tend to minimize risk through short, iterative development cycles, each of which tends to be comprised of an entire software project, including planning, requirements analysis, design, coding, testing and documentation.
Since Agile development is made up of a family of processes rather than any single approach to software development, emphasizing this innovative approach along with the necessity of collaborative efforts and frequent communication will be key to this certificate program. "The Agile Manifesto," as it has become known, emphasizes the following:
- Customer satisfaction by rapid, continuous delivery of useful software
- Working software is delivered frequently (weeks rather than months)
- Working software is the principal measure of progress
- Even late changes in requirements are welcomed
- Close, daily cooperation between business people and developers
- Face-to-face conversation is the best form of communication
- Projects are built around motivated individuals, who should be trusted
- Continuous attention to technical excellence and good design
- Simplicity
- Self-organizing teams
- Regular adaptation to changing circumstances
This series of three courses will apply the principles and practices of agile management and software development practices through a combination of activities, exercises, simulations, lectures, and discussions.
