Barbara Cochrane, Ph.D., R.N.
Cochrane is an Associate Professor in Family and Child Nursing and the de Tornyay Term Professor in Healthy Aging at the UW School of Nursing, where she is also Director of the de Tornyay Center for Healthy Aging. She is a Joint Associate Member in Public Health Sciences at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, where she is a co-investigator at the coordinating center for the Women's Health Initiative--the large, landmark study of postmenopausal women's health. For the past 20 years, Cochrane's research has focused on older women's health, health promotion and disease prevention.
H. Asuman Kiyak, Ph.D.
Kiyak is director of the UW Institute on Aging, professor of oral and maxillofacial surgery, and adjunct professor in the UW Department of Psychology. She has also co-authored a widely used textbook, Social Gerontology: A Multidisciplinary Perspective, currently in its 8th edition (2008), with Nancy Hooyman, dean emeritus at the UW School of Social Work. Kiyak's work as director of the UW Institute on Aging since 1994 has allowed her to bring together a wide range of faculty and students in interdisciplinary teaching and research activities.
Marty Richards, M.S.W., A.C.S.W.
Richards is an affiliate assistant professor in the UW School of Social Work. She has been a geriatric social worker for more than 30 years, working in community and long-term care settings. Teaching classes to elders and families where they meet, in churches, community clubs and employee assistance programs, has been a special interest. Richards has also been on the teaching faculty of the Northwest Geriatric Education Center, largely involved in outreach to rural areas of four states. She has a private geriatric care management, counseling and consultation practice in Seattle, and works primarily with elders and families coping with chronic illness and transitions. Marty has worked over 40 years with older adults and their families. She has a private social work, consulting and case management practice in Port Townsend WA.
