Linda Baker, M.A., Ph.C.
Senior Instructional Designer, Distance Learning Design, UW Extension
As a Senior Instructional Designer at UW Educational Outreach, Distance Learning Division, Baker has been a key contributor to the development of diverse programs and courses including Advanced Research in Addiction and the Brain Certificate Online, E-Leaning Design and Development, Fluency with Information Technology, and the master degree program in construction management and engineering. Before joining UWEO, Baker served as the Technology Learning Manager for the Puget Sound Educational Service District, Research Coordinator for the UW DO-IT project and Program Coordinator and Full-time Instructor for the Journalism/Mass Media Program at Highline Community College. Baker has a Ph.C. in Educational Technology and Communications from the University of Washington. She has been teaching online and developing E-Learning courses for over 10 years and has close to 30 years experience in adult education
Trez Buckland, Ph.C.
School of Nursing, University of Washington
Buckland is an instructor and developer of the Advanced Research in Addiction and the Brain and Brain Research in Education certificate programs, co-director of the Addiction: Hijacking the Brain program, and director of the Health Education pathway in the Masters in Public Health extended degree at the UW. There, she is Program Coordinator for the Faculty Integrative Health Program and holds a clinical faculty appointment while pursuing her doctorate in nursing. Her 26 years of classroom experience span K–post-secondary education, focusing on middle and high school science and health. She's helped develop hands-on science curricula and in-teacher training for the Seattle Archdiocese, Washington Association for Biomedical Research, and the Washington State Science Teachers' Association. She has worked on SEPA brain and learning projects.
Susanna L. Cunningham, Ph.D., R.N., F.A.A.N.
Professor, School of Nursing, University of Washington
Dr. Cunningham is a professor at the University of Washington School of Nursing and leads the Advanced Research in Addiction and the Brain as the Principal Investigator. She has baccalaureate and master’s degrees in Nursing, a Ph.D. in Physiology and Biophysics, and spent a year as a Post-doctoral Fellow at the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore studying epidemiology, biostatistics, and behavioral modification of cardiovascular risk. Dr. Cunningham is the current chair of the UW’s Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee, a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing and of the Council of Cardiovascular Nursing, American Heart Association, and a principal investigator of three science education grants, including Addiction: Hijacking the Brain, funded by the National Institute of Drug Abuse.
Akira Horita, Ph.D.
Professor Emeritus, Pharmacology, Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, School of Medicine, University of Washington
Dr. Horita is Co-Principal Investigator, instructor, and developer of the Advanced Research in Addiction and the Brain Certificate Online. He has conducted major research studying the effect of addictive drugs on the brain; contributed significantly to the body of knowledge and scientific literature in his field; and has received numerous honors. Dr. Horita has been a volunteer speaker for the Making Connections, Making Choices and Making Connections: Expanding Our Web summer institute for teachers for over eight years. He is consistently ranked by the teachers at the summer institute as “able to explain complex concepts so they’re understood by the audience.” Dr. Horita served as Co-PI and expert resource during the creation of the “Drugs and the Brain” Brain Power middle school curriculum and was the key speaker on the brain’s reward system for the Advanced Research in Addiction and the Brain: Beyond Saying No and Addiction: Hijacking the Brain programs.
Mona Murr Kunselman, Ph.D.
Associate Director, UW Extension
Dr. Kunselman has a Ph.D. in science education, an M.Ed. in biology education, and a BS in biology. She serves as Co-Principal Investigator of the Advanced Research in Addiction and the Brain Certificate Online and manages the day-to-day operations of the program; leads the planning and implementation of action steps to advance the educational and operational goals of the program; participates in the development and the delivery of the courses; and acts as the main program liaison with the Office of the State Superintendent of Public Instruction and the College of Education. Dr. Kunselman is an Associate Director of Academic Programs at University of Washington Educational Outreach and is responsible for developing and implementing professional programs that open the UW resources to the K-12 education community.
Jenny L. Williamson, M.A.
Science Educator, Extension Lecturer, School of Nursing, University of Washington
Williamson is a certified teacher with a Master's in Education and a bachelor's in zoology. She is an instructor and developer of the Advanced Research in Addiction and the Brain and Brain Research in Education online certificate programs, and Co-Director of the Making Connections: Expanding our Web program. She has taught science education methods at Edmonds Community College; developed the middle school science program Brain Power; and spent 10 years teaching outreach science classes for Pacific Science Center in K-12 schools across Washington State. Her expertise in curriculum development earned her the Pacific Science Center's Outstanding Creativity Award in 1993. Williamson is involved with the Making Connections: Expanding Our Web program, including the creation and maintenance of its interactive website.
